Hoya to reduce Pentax digital camera workforce in Japan

The company also plans to reduce its digital camera workforce overseas, mainly in sales. It has yet to decide how many of the roughly 300 targeted employees will be let go eventually. The cutback, however, will not be applicable to 2,000 or so workers engaged in manufacturing operations, reports

Hoya expects it will be able to save more than ¥5 billion (Euro 38.7 million) on fixed costs and the job cuts will help the company return to the black on a monthly basis in the second half of fiscal 2009.
