The camera brand Olympus is now history

OM Digital Solutions has announced the end of the camera brand Olympus. From now on, all new products of the former Imaging Division of Olympus, which was established at the beginning of this year as an independent company, will carry the label OM System. This does not only apply to the cameras, but also to audio recorders and binoculars.

With the new OM System label, OM Digital Solutions wants to build on the heritage of the Olympus brand. For the camera business, this meant to continue the development of products that offer uncompromising picture quality in a light and compact body, said Shigemi Sugimoto, CEO of OM Digital Solutions.

First, only new products will bear the new brand OM system, while the existing product range continues to carry the name Olympus. The manufacturer, however, did not reveal when exactly with first OM System cameras and lenses will be announced, but pointed out a new Micro Four Third’s system camera that is said to set new standards in photography was in the final stage of its development.
