Tetenal closes its doors after 172 years

This ends a story that began in 1847, when Berlin entrepreneur Theodor Teichgräber started to produce photographic chemicals for the development of collodion plates in his drug wholesale company. 1910, the trademark Tetenal was first registered.

In October 2018, Tetenal Europe GmbH filed a petition for a reorganization under insolvency protection at the district court of Norderstedt. The former Managing Director Daniel Middendorf remained in office to bring the company back on track. He was accompanied by the restructuring experts of the consulting firm Buchalik Brömmekamp, which was later replaced by the Austrian consulting network Grantiro.

However, the project of restructuring under insolvency protection proved to be impracticable. In January, the regular insolvency proceedings for Tetenal Europe GmbH were opened, and the German subsidiary Tetenal Imaging Service GmbH filed for insolvency, Managing Director Daniel Middendorf lost his office. There is no information about the fate of Tetenal’s subsidiaries in Poland, France and the U.K.
