According to a press release, the new Polaroid Zip mobile printer uses the revolutionary ink-free Zero Ink Printing technology developed by Zink Imaging. The key to the ink-free system is the patented Zink Paper, an advanced composite material embedded with cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals and with a protective polymer overcoat. Before printing, the dye crystals are colorless making Zink Paper look like regular white photo paper. The Zink-enabled Printer uses heat to activate and colorize these crystals. The result is full-color, high quality, long-lasting and smudge-proof images without ink cartridges, ribbons or toner. The 2X3 inch photo prints in just under a minute so consumers can share that physical photo with their friends and family. Additionally, because the Zink paper is adhesive backed the photo can be used as a sticker as well. The Polaroid Zip mobile printer includes an internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that’s capable of printing up to 25 ZINK photos on a single charge. The Polaroid Zip mobile printer will be available this Spring.
“Instantly sharing life’s special moments is what Polaroid’s legacy and heritage are all about, ” said Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid. “Our smartphones are always with us and have become an important device consumer’s reach for to capture life’s most memorable moments. Some photos are uploaded to social networks and shared with others digitally; however, there will always be a need to share and show actual “physical” photos. The new Polaroid Zip mobile printer doesn’t just streamline and simplify the process it makes it as much fun as sharing an image online. That’s why we’re excited to bring the "updated” version of the Polaroid experience to a generation of consumers known for always being on-the-move.”
