"With this sensational start, photokina has underscored its position as a must-experience imaging sector event," says Oliver P. Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse. Christoph Thomas, Chairman of the Photographic Industry Association, is also very impressed with the way things have gone so far. "Our expectations have been greatly surpassed. The momentum photokina is generating is invaluable for the sector."
Numerous exhibitors reported they had received "very good orders" by the halfway point, and some even said their orders had "significantly exceeded expectations." The sector’s exhibitors were also pleased by the fact that the number of visitors from abroad had once again increased. What’s more, with its new product segments, photokina has been able to attract new target groups. "Whatever you’re looking for on the global imaging market – the comprehensive product range in Cologne leaves no wish unfulfilled," was the message from many buyers.
Up until Sunday, photography enthusiasts, hobby photographers and anyone interested in photographic art will be able to enjoy photokina 2010’s extensive range of photography exhibitions, events and attractions, which cover a wide range of topics. Attractions at the fair include playboy shootings, the world’s largest photo globe, a test and diving pool for underwater photography, a "living test chart," where you can have professionals check your own camera, and lots of other public offerings related to imaging.
In Hall 5.1, photokina is also offering a central meeting point for young photography enthusiasts under the name "Meet the Communities at photokina." "Meet the Communities" links up real and virtual communities for the first time on an area measuring over 1,500 square meters. Social networks, photography festivals, associations, and publishing houses are offering photokina visitors a unique platform with diverse highlights on and beside the big stage.
A total of 1,251 exhibitors from 45 countries will be presenting the entire product range of modern imaging technology and image applications for both consumers and professionals until Sunday. The trade fair is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
