Nikon unveils eight new Coolpix cameras

The $ 400 Coolpix P90 is a new compact digital camera model that offers extended reach, wide-angle coverage, the intuitive ease of advanced shooting functions and outstanding performance. A new 24x Zoom-Nikkor lens for the Coolpix P90 covers a broad focal range of 26mm wide-angle through 624mm super-telephoto (35mm format equivalent). The clarity of these precision optics combine with 12.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution and advanced Nikon digital image-processing to faithfully reproduce fine details and subtle tones, and to maintain image quality when taking advantage of extended light sensitivity settings as high as ISO 6400. Image sensor shift VR image stabilization adds extra reassurance of sharper and clearer results. Further extending its potential as a versatile photographic tool, the Coolpix P90 features a new 3-in. high-resolution vari-angle LCD with anti-reflection coating that can be tilted as much as 90 degrees upward or 45 degrees downward. This enables photographers to shoot from higher angles or from the hip, and to thereby make best use of the superior reach and range of the 24x zoom lens.

Skillfully blending the precision optics of a 7x Zoom-Nikkor lens with ultra-compact form, the Coolpix S630 is a powerful photographic tool that maximizes the image quality and performance benefits of Nikon’s innovative Expeed digital image-processing concept. The contour of the new Sure Grip body design helps ensure sharper results when leveraging the lens’ telescopic reach by providing a firm and perfectly natural fit in the hand. These features combine with a 12.0 megapixel image sensor and advanced Nikon digital image-processing to faithfully reproduce fine details and subtle tones, and to deliver exceptional image quality and consistently sharp results. The S630 is available starting in March for $280.

The Coolpix L100 features the compositional freedom of a 15x Zoom-NIKKOR lens. Covering 28mm wide-angle to 420mm super-telephoto shooting, the lens’ broad focal range can readily handle everything from landscapes and group shots, to tight close-ups and shots taken from a distance that allows shooting subjects as they move or play naturally. It even covers macro shooting ability from as close as 1 cm (0.4 in.). Nikon’s image sensor shift VR image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake, while Motion Detection automatically controls shutter speed. Extended light sensitivity settings as high as ISO 3200 (for image sizes of 3M (2048 x 1536) or smaller) add further capability that helps ensure sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. It will be available in April for $280.

Featuring response so quick that it frees photographers to confidently capture every special moment at will, the Coolpix S620 is a finely crafted ultra-compact photographic tool that makes picture-taking a lot more fun. Performance features include a fast start-up time of a mere 0.7 seconds and a short shutter-release time lag. The quality optics of a precision 4x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage and macro shooting ability from as close as 2 cm (0.8 in.) helps to ensure beautiful results. New to the Coolpix S620 is the ability to shoot at any image size up to its maximum of 4000 x 3000 pixels with light sensitivity settings of as high as ISO 6400. The $270 Coolpix S620 will be available in black, purple, silver, pink, blue, and white starting in March.

The Coolpix S230 employs a newly developed 3-in. touch control LCD to offer intuitive fingertip shooting control and a variety of exciting playback options.
