New event: Photopia Hamburg in September 2021

With the new event Photopia Hamburg, the Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) wants to make the fascination and possibilities of photography, video and other imaging processes tangible for a wide audience. From September 23 to 26, 2021, the event is planned to present modern technology and inspiring art to reflect the market for photo, video, imaging and image communication under the motto “share your vision“ in the vibrant city of Hamburg, Germany.

The concept comprises three interlinked components: The innovative live event at the exhibition center, “Photopia Summit” is intended to bring new products and services to life in an inspiring environment, while also presenting future topics such as artificial intelligence and virtual/augmented reality in various formats. At the same time, the ”Photopia Festival” is to attract attention throughout Hamburg with exhibitions and hands-on activities such as photo walks and workshops for photography, video and imaging, while the third element is the “Photopia 365”, which is set to offer a unique information and communication platform for the industry.

According to a press release, exhibitors from the entire imaging spectrum are expected to present products and services from the areas of photo and video capturing, processing and printing, storage, display and sharing – including software and tech companies as well as numerous start-ups. Registration for exhibitors starts in September 2020.

“With this new format, we want to let a large audience enjoy the fascination of photography, video filming and other imaging technologies by allowing them to be actively involved,” said Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman of the HMC Management Board. “This event not only provides a platform for professional and hobby photographers, dealers and fans of photo culture but also, and expressly so, for the huge audience of smartphone owners who use their devices to take pictures and to communicate through images on a daily basis.“

Hamburg Messe and Congress pointed out that the concept of Photopia stands out from classic event formats to createt a bridge between different target groups, offering both exhibitors and visitors a high degree of inspiration and interdisciplinary exchange. That is why HMC is cooperating with OMR: the organizers of the OMR Festival – an important event for digital marketing and technology – are to support the organizers in staging Photopia and establish a connection to the international tech and mobile scene.

With this concept, Hamburg Messe und Congress wants to make Photopia the new meeting spot not only for thought leaders in the photo and imaging industry, but also to consciously establish interdisciplinary contact with decision-makers in other sectors and technologies through side events. The trade and innovation metropolis Hamburg offers the ideal setting for this, according to HMC: On the one hand, the Hanseatic city is known as a center for imaging and photo culture, on the other hand, the Photopia takes place parallel to the Reeperbahn Festival, Europe’s largest club festival. Not only can exciting pictures be captured there, but also synergies with young, urban visitor target groups should arise. At the same time, decision-makers, thought leaders and creative people from all over the world will meet in Hambur at the Next Conference, an important industry meeting for the digital economy.

In addition to Photopia Hamburg, HMC has attracted the northern German photo community for three years now with the Fotohaven Hamburg, which is part of the consumer show ”oohh! FreizeitWelten”, which can be  translated as Wow! Worlds of leisure time.
