"The inclusion of original toner cartridges greatly expands the potential for environmental leadership in this product area, as our original standard focused solely on remanufactured products," says Angela Griffiths, executive director of the EcoLogo Program. "This expansion is a major step forward in helping to recognize advancements made by manufacturers of environmentally-preferable, new cartridges."
The revised standard also includes criteria for socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing. These include mandatory documentation of compliance with local, regional, and national environmental and occupational health and safety requirements, as well as proof that the manufacturer has an effective environmental management system in place.
