The number of analog prints, however, declined by 4.7 percent and the number of color negative rolls processed fell by 4.9 percent to 70.7 million, resulting in a 3.4 percent drop in the consumption of photographic paper.
Since profit margins with digital prints are significantly higher than with analog prints, the growth in the digital segment provides photofinishers and retailers with a welcome opportunity to compensate for the falling prices in the analog segment, said Hubert Rothärmel, Chairman of the Association.
