The transaction includes the complete film cutting and slitting facility, the wholesale lab and the international branding rights of Orwo AG as well as the related real estates. Lintec, a supplier of PCs and related products, is listed on the German stock market and acquired the majority of the photo and imaging wholesale company Batavia more than a year ago. It has established Orwo Media GmbH as a wholly owned subsidiary. The new company will operate the Orwo wholesale lab and film finishing facility and is to team up with the Lintec subsidiary, PixelNet AG, to provide digital photofinishing services both to consumers and professionals via the Internet. According to published reports, Lintec expects that by the year 2003, 25% of all pictures in Europe will be taken digitally. Based on the 22 billion prints produced in Europe in 1998, the company expects a market of more than 5 billion digital prints by then. According to Lintec CEO Hans Dieter Lindemeyer, the Orwo photofinishing site will be developed into one of the most advanced digital imaging centers in Europe.
