IFA 2020 to be set in a new framework

Following the decision by the Government of the City of Berlin to ban all events with more than 5,000 participants until 24 October 2020, the organizers of IFA, the world’s leading tradeshow for consumer electronics and home appliances, have announced the next event, which was planned for September 4 to 9, 2020, will not take place as usual. However, gfu and Messe Berlin said they had anticipated this development and, for several weeks now, had been discussing a range of alternative concepts that build on the strengths of IFA as a global showcase for technology innovation and an important meeting place for brands, manufacturers, retailers and media. Details of an updated concept for IFA 2020 will be announced in the near future.

Hans-Joachim Kamp, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the gfu Consumer and Home Electronics GmbH, commented: “We expected this development given the constantly evolving pandemic and appreciate that we have now a clear regulatory framework that enables us, our partner Messe Berlin, and our exhibitors to make detailed plans for IFA 2020.“
