Fujifilm wins patent infringement case

On July 31, 2013, the District Court granted Fujifilm’s Motion for Summary Judgment and found the asserted claims of the patent invalid under § 101 of the U.S. Patent Statute, because those claims are not directed to patent-eligible subject matter. On July 11, 2014, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals issued an unanimous decision that affirmed the District Court’s Summary Judgment of patent invalidity. Since the deadline for Digitech to apply for a review of the court’s decision has expired, the lower courts’ invalidity rulings are now final, ending the case with a complete victory for Fujifilm.

Fujifilm said it has a policy of respecting intellectual property rights and considering those rights in developing and selling products. At the same time, the company is committed to standing firm against patent owners who pursue litigation based on overly broad interpretations of their intellectual property rights or claims of infringement that lack merit.
