A native of Hiroshima, Japan, Asa came to Canada in 1954 together with his brothers Roy and Kenji and started his working life as a mushroom-picker. After founding Japan Camera together with his brothers in 1959, he expanded the enterprise to today‘s 100+ store chain throughout Canada. Asa served as President of PMA in 1995/96 and was inducted into the PMA Hall of Fame in 1999. he will be always remembered by many people in the industry for his commitment and vision of the future of photo retailing as well as for his unique, friendly character and his irresistable sense of humour.
