Canon U.S.A. demonstrates a wide range of print solutions at Graph EXPO 2011

As a way to demonstrate the ground-breaking print quality of the DreamLabo 5000, Bob Davis, a Canon Explorer of Light, will shoot images of the show on a Canon EOS Digital SLR camera and display images output on the machine. The Canon DreamLabo 5000 inkjet printer marks the Company’s entry into the production photo printing market, targeting high-growth market opportunities for digital photo printers. Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print-head technology allows for both high image quality and productivity to support a variety of value-added output capabilities. These include photo merchandise and high-end POD (Print on Demand) items, such as wedding albums and calendars. The system realizes accurate color representation and provides a new alternative to traditional silver halide processing technology.

Incorporating Canon’s advanced imaging and media-handling technologies with Océ PRISMAsync control, Canon’s imagePRESS C7010VPS digital press adds a new level of versatility to Canon’s production print portfolio. To demonstrate the rapid transition occurring in the book publishing industry, the Canon booth features the Canon imagePRESS C7010VPS working in conjunction with the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra production printer to create a unified book publishing solution. Utilizing Océ PRISMAprepare software to drive both devices, color book covers will be output on the imagePRESS C7010VPS digital press while interior text and full, in-line finishing will be completed by the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra using Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology to print both sides of the page in a single pass.

The book publishing demonstration will also present a variety of color-document output options including the commercially available square back finisher from SDD.

Visitors will also have the opportunity become a part of the show experience by participating in a photo shoot replicating the "Dining in Chicago" theme. During a tour of the booth, their photos, along with information they provide, will be routed into a production workflow resulting in three personalized direct mail print campaign pieces output on the imagePRESS C7010VP color digital press using the PTI Fusion Pro variable data print solution. The final output will be UV coated in-line utilizing the Olec Swift coater featuring a newly-developed bridge custom-designed for the Canon

The Canon booth will also feature the first demonstration of the Canon imagePRESS 1135+ monochrome digital press. Built on the legendary imagePRESS platform, the imagePRESS 1135+ offers enhanced productivity and image quality as well as greater media flexibility to serve print service providers needs including complex job production and expanded finishing options.

For designers, graphic artists and print providers seeking the next generation in proofing technology, the Canon booth will feature the Canon imagePRESS C1+ with the new Canon Clear Image Editor, a pioneering software application that makes it possible for end-users to visualize on-screen the controlled lighting effects of spot gloss varnish-type printing using Canon Clear Toner, before committing their design to print. Previously, proofing coating effects was difficult as the reflection of light off a printed surface was difficult to simulate. Canon’s Clear Image Editor offers a 3-D viewing application that lets users rotate the printed piece under directional lighting in a simulated virtual space to preview the gloss-like printing effect from all angles. Clear Image Editor also enables the application of pre-designed patterned templates for carrying the clear toner into colored graphics helping businesses embrace the exciting possibilities of clear-coat printing.

The Design and Proof section also features the 44-inch, imagePROGRAF iPF8300S large format printer developed for the photography, proofing and production markets. Offering faster output speeds than the 12-color line of imagePROGRAF Graphic Arts printers and a broad range of output capabilities, the imagePROGRAF iPF8300S features an 8-Color LUCIA EX ink set, 160GB hard drive, built-in calibration and 44" borderless printing that is ideal for advertising, retail signage and contract proofs.

Demonstrating the latest addition to the Océ ColorStream series, the Océ ColorStream 3500 full-color inkjet printer will make its U.S. debut at Graph Expo. Targeting high-speed production print providers, the Océ ColorStream 3500 system will support customers who want to do more with digital four-color output by offering productivity and flexibility for high-speed color and monochrome production of transaction, transpromo, direct mail, book and manual applications. Delivering 1,073 letter-size impressions per minute the system generates personalized color output enabled by the latest in flexible, efficient production color printing and workflow, while simplifying the transition from monochrome to full-color or even five or six color output.

With customer adoption of large format print solutions, the Océ Arizona 550 GT UV curable flatbed printer joins the award-winning Océ Arizona Series at the high-productivity end of the range. Featuring near-photographic image quality and designed as both a true flatbed and a true roll-to-roll system, the Océ Arizona 550 GT printer outputs both rigid and flexible media without compromising image quality. Its flatbed table can print on nearly any substrate or object, including pre-cut or non-square items. The White Ink Option expands the range of offerings to include printing on colored and transparent surfaces. Offering high production print speed, the Arizona 550 GT UV can handle peak demands for rush jobs and can be used for short-run lenticular lens printing; object and point-of-purchase printing (POP); banners; directional signage; prototyping; short-run and customized packaging; as well as backlit applications.

Showcasing the broad range of Canon imagePROGRAF large format printer technology, the dual-roll imagePROGRAF iPF825MFP is a complete production printing system designed to enhance productivity for medium to large workgroups requiring high speed throughput. With incredible line accuracy, a 160GB hard drive, copy and scan capabilities, excellent media handling, and on-board support for HP-GL/2 and HP RTL files, the iPF825 is a complete and easy-to-use printing solution for any professional needing to produce intricately detailed full-color renderings, CAD drawings, GIS maps and other large-format output. In addition, the Canon booth will showcase a variety of signage applications developed and output on the 36-inch Canon imagePROGRAF iPF750 large format printer with PosterArtist design software.
