Canon strengthens surveillance portfolio with addition of VB-C500D network camera

Based on the popular VB-C60, the flexible VB-C500D has been designed to meet current trends within the surveillance market by being as discreet and unobtrusive as possible. Housed in an ultra compact 3.7 inch (dome diameter) mini-dome the VB-C500D features a 2.4x (digital 4x) optical zoom with 82° wide-angle vari-focal lens making it ideal for monitoring wider spaces such as shopping malls, public stations or offices, as well as tighter spaces such as ATM’s or retail stores. Its discreet 3.7-inch size allows for close monitoring without drawing people’s attention and consequently is ideal in environments where interior design is more emphasized.

The VB-C500D contains high quality image processes such as the proprietary DIGIC NET, which distributes high quality JPEG/MPEG-4 images simultaneously, and uniquely is capable of capturing colour video at 0.3 lux (1/30 sec.) whilst maintaining low noise and high colour reproduction. When monitoring at night or in low light conditions, the VB-C500D, which includes improved digital sensitivity due to Canon’s high imaging quality, switches automatically to Automatic Digital Night Mode which changes from colour video monitoring to monochrome. Canon’s proprietary in-camera Smart Shade Control (SSC) technology also adjusts darker areas whilst maintaining the brightness ensuring the background image remains clear.
