Utagawa Kuniyoshi is considered to be one of the great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting, dominating nineteenth century printmaking in Japan alongside celebrated Japanese artists such as Katsushika Hokusai – best known for The Great Wave – and Utagawa Hiroshige. The exhibition will feature over 150 works, some never seen by the public before.
James Leipnik, Chief of Communication and Corporate Relations at Canon Europe said: “As a Japanese company with a long history of supporting the arts, Canon is delighted to support this exhibition that shares and celebrates the traditional culture of Japan. We are passionate about the power of the image and are proud to be associated with one of the world’s finest institutions and one of the greatest Japanese artists”
